THE RESTORATION OF TWIN 18TH CENTURY PORTER’S LODGES

As part of the redevelopment of the historic Penicuik Estate on the outskirts of Edinburgh, we were tasked with the reimagining of 5 properties in partnership with SuHuHa architects, set on one of the most important designed landscapes of the 18th Century.

From the outside the lodges appear diminutive yet inside the tardis like buildings, open up into the beautifully proportioned grand airy spaces, typical to the Georgian style. The unexpected space felt like discovering gems in a jewel box and so our concept was born. While the lodges were near identical, we created two very distinct spaces, each with a bold jewel like colour palette and unique identity.

Fantoush worked with architects Sutherland, Hussey, Harris and contractor, Stuart McNae, providing a complete interior design service from start to completion.
